General Liability Defense
Our attorneys defend a variety of claims involving tort and other civil litigation matters, including unfair competition, interference with contractual relations, defamation, and violation of securities laws. Firm members have considerable experience defending claims resulting from automobile, truck, and construction accidents; premises liability exposures such as unsafe conditions and inadequate security; and trespass and nuisance claims.
Defense of Professionals
In addition to defending lawyers in malpractice cases, the firm's attorneys regularly defend other professionals, including architects, engineers, accountants, insurance agents, financial planners, real estate agents and brokers, software design architects and engineers, physicians, dentists, and hospitals. We also defend claims against counselors, treatment centers, and other social care and services providers. We are sensitive to the needs and problems involved in defending professionals, and we work closely with them to resolve litigation expeditiously.
Commercial Litigation
We represent clients in contract and other commercial disputes. Firm members litigate contract and warranty breaches; unlawful trade practices; fraud; interference with contractual relations; non-compete agreements; breach of fiduciary duties and other areas of commercial litigation.
Insurance Coverage/Defense of Insurers
We counsel primary insurers, excess insurers, and reinsurers both in the commercial lines and personal lines arenas on all coverage issues. We provide complete services, from the initial exposure evaluation through litigation and resolution of the most complex coverage and bad faith claims. We have an in-depth knowledge of policy provisions and common practices of the insurance industry, and the myriad of issues involved in determining the duty to defend or indemnify. Firm members also have significant experience counseling and defending insurance companies in extracontractual claims.
Agricultural Claims
We handle agricultural risks, including damage to livestock, crop damage, defective products, and environmental concerns.
Environmental Litigation
Our attorneys have extensive experience in the field of environmental law, as well as insurance coverage and defense litigation as it applies to environmental claims. The firm's attorneys have participated in litigating some of the Pacific Northwest region's most significant environmental coverage lawsuits. We also represent individual companies before the Environmental Protection Agency and related state agencies.
Products Liability
We represent individual companies against claims from alleged defects in consumer products as well as in custom software, forestry, farming, fishing, construction, and industrial equipment. The firm's attorneys also defend asbestos, chemical, and drug cases.
Employment Litigation
We defend employers in state and federal court, as well as before state and federal administrative bodies. Our attorneys have tried cases involving wrongful termination and discrimination claims based on sex, age, race, sexual preference, and handicap allegations.
Construction Litigation
Our attorneys have extensive experience in the field of construction litigation. We have represented owners, design professionals, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and various construction trades in construction litigation arising out of residential, commercial, and public projects.
Personal Injury Defense
We defend personal injury claims from the most minor soft-tissue injury to the most significant types of injuries, as well as wrongful death claims. We defend cases involving disputes of both liability and damages, as well as those involving solely damages disputes.
Trucking Claims
We defend trucking companies and drivers (independent contractor and employee).
UM/UIM/PIP Claims
Our attorneys are recognized as leaders in the complex area of uninsured and underinsured motorist law and personal injury protection, and frequently conduct courses for other Oregon attorneys and insurance professionals in these areas. We provide counsel to the insurer both prior to and after suit is filed, and assist the insurer in navigating the numerous statutes that apply.
Premises Liability
We have experience in all aspects of premises liability cases, representing both the commercial client and the homeowner.
Dram Shop Claims
We represent bars and taverns in dram shop claims involving all levels of harm from minor injury to wrongful death.
